Thought I'd start a topic, due to another member perking up my ears about some stuff that we hinted at over in the Angel Info for All thread.

What are your beliefs in so far as the origins of our race? Where did we come from? Are we indigenous to this planet, or are we transplants? Are we half angel, half animal? Did we come from tadpoles?  :eyemouth:

What are your thoughts?

I think we came from monkeys who were put here as some sort of sick joke by a "higher power". But seriously, I think we evolved from monkeys who were here because they came from other mammals, and so on. I really want to hear others' thoughts on this.

I am starting to develop my own theory on this (and remember this is a theory that I'm still working on). I believe that our souls were put into flesh form by the gods for whatever purposes.

Uh. . .I'm a Sitchin fan.  I won't bet my nose on it, though.  I'll find out when I get that elusive Akashic Library Card.  My application keeps getting rejected.

I think monkeys & humans had a common ancestor species . . . which alas went extinct 600 million years ago.  That was the end of the relationship between humans and monkeys, and no amount of wishing will bring it into being again.
We are more closely related to gorillas and chimps, and yet, this relationship was broken a few hundred million years after the monkey relations broke off.  Humanity had several brother and sister species that existed alongside as it developed.  All of these went extinct.  The last brother species to die off were the Neanderthals, right in our midst.  Now there is no other hominid species on the planet.  It's just lonely us, and we're partially responsible for that reality.  Even so, our survival is dicey because it depends on more than our capacity to reproduce.  Our survival ultimately depends on our capacity to form the best strategies to deal with our environment, our needs, our poverty, our ignorance, and our foolishness.  Our survival isn't in our gonads, it's in our heads.
We're a lonely people, and those of us who disown evolution through natural selection wish us to be lonelier.

Humanity has experienced much of death.
Our survival may also depend on our capacity to deal with mortality in a way that facilitates respect for life, rather than dealing with life in a way that suffocates respect for mortality.

oh dear...what a Heavy subject (& THANKS for broaching it, Leilah)!...personally, i have NO CLUE when Homo Sap Sap first emerged as a distinct type...but i'm glad we're discussing human origins here now because it fits in well with a book i'm reading: Saharasia: The 4000 BCE Origins of Child Abuse, Sex Repression, Warfare & Social Violence in the Desrts of the Old World by James DeMeo.
his basic thesis is that human society shifted drastically from an egalitarian partnership model to an authoritarian, stratified, heavily sexist, warlmongering model  around 4000 BCE when the Sahara region & parts of Asia dried & became desert. i have 1 minute left but i'll talk more latwer.

okay i'm back...i'm over half way through the book & it is worthwhile. even if DeMeo is mistaken in placing the widespread, profound shift that i mentioned at that time period & attributing it to that particular cause, his book nonetheless has great merit in that it points out that when creatures face deprivation, they stop being nice to eachother...& he marshalls in a great deal of evidence to support his argument.
frankly, how humans originated as a distinct type interests me far less than a closely related matter: the origins & causes of the horrible crisis that i've begun to describe.

my time on this computer is limited so i'll say ciao for now.

The reason's why these events occurred is somewhat simple in my opinion, it's basic human nature, what one man creates another must destroy, I'm also a vampiric practitioner and what I have always thought is that the thing that separates humans from us vampiric humans is the fact that people like me realize that to maintain life a vital energy or life-force must be taken, meaning we are all predators but society has twisted this basic instinct in to being cruel, wrong, immoral, and a variety of other things, and man has always had a basic ingrained thought (subconscious instinct) which is a need to be dominant over his peers, to be on the top in other words, and as society evolves this need becomes more and more apparent.

Um..... so basically what you are saying is that is okay to be an asshole as long as you are the biggest one?

Okay - take no offense...  :eyemouth:

But if everyone in the world were to follow your example, then civilization would never have even started. For if we were constantly preying upon one another without any cooperation, what would we have? As it is now it is those who seem to think that climbing to the top of a heap of shit over the carcasses of others have brought us to where we are....

Can you honestly say this is a good place?

Someday we will have to cooperate as a whole race in order to survive. Everyone has their own talents that are needful. Part of me thinks that this may be the very lesson we are all here to learn. If only because it seems to the one lesson the human race refuses to learn....

As for where we came from - everywhere, and nowhere. Consciousness abounds throughout this universe as the eyes which perceive that which is. And it takes many forms. Even those which have no physical eyes. We are just energy shaped into a convenient form but inhabited by a consciousness as old as the stars. And underneath that, or behind it, or alongsides of it - there is a shared consciousness as well. In the end, we are but energy....
