It's a pity that I have been gone myself for so long, otherwise I may have had the chance to see them off.
I wonder if perhaps some of the lack of activity here is seasonal. It gets warm and bright outside and folks seem to become lemmings, all going outside enmass. Then when autumn arrives, it gets darker and colder, and we see a resurgance here.
I suppose despite all of the modern trappings, and how evolved we consider ourselves to be, there is something in us that harkens to the earlier days, when the dark and cold was feared, when the autumn and winter months brought death and suffering. Hmm...maybe that is exactly why I love those months so much!
Death is the liberator of him whom freedom cannot release, the physician of him whom medicine cannot cure, and the comforter of him whom time cannot console.
