Hey Daniel,

well I love old horror movies as well, as cringe at the likelihood of remakes=run out of ideas, that hollywood seemed to be doing of late. and to give an example of a different genre, after the incredibles came out, now they are making a dime a dozen superhero movies to cash in.

Don't get me wrong, I think some of them are good, and the Incredibles was just as rip-off of the Fantastic Four, but now you have:

Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, The Flash, Wonder Woman, plus xmen, hellboy etc sequels and also kids films inspired by the incredibles like Sky High and Zoom's Academy, which have exactly the same plot:

Said child finds out his parent(s) is/are/were superheroes and in revelation of their own burgeoning powers, attends a x-men style highschool for superheroes while tackling their own adolescence.

They are also doing this to the horror genre: Amityville Horror, House of Wax, TCM, Dawn of the Dead, Phantasm and so on.

Well I guess its all our fault, if we stop going, they'll stop makin' em!

I hope they don't touch the Count Yorga movies! they are two of my favourites of all time, and one the first horror movies I ever watched!

Hmm, I think I'll wait for the video on most of the remakes, as few folks today seem to be able to do horror well. (Major exception: David Cronenberg.) This is what happens when most stuff is done by committee, and everybody involved thinks that they're a f*cking artist! :pissedoff: If directors/writers were allowed to follow their vision, perhaps we'd see more real horror! But NOOOOO..... :cussing:

I agree COMPLETELY russalka. Anytime they "remake" anything it's bound to be a sucky formula retake. The beauty of something as campy and cheaply made as "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things" is that their hearts were into it, and that's what made it special. No, it didn't have any fancy computer effects, but it still a great, weird flick!  :headbang:

Who CANNOT love Orville, after all.... :clap2:

Thanks for the merge Leilah :hippy:

yeah most of them are crappy, and it is the studios fault, but unfortunately for independants nowadays, I think they make films at the start to prove their worth to the big studios and get picked up for the big mulla!

then it all turns to shit. That's part of the reason George Lucas is his own corporation, esp with the OT. He didn't want studio tampering, like they did with American Graffiti, so he made his own rules. Sure i wasn't to fond of eps 1 and 2, but 3 looks like it is going to make up for it.

What we need is disolving of studios and get back to movie making with heart and passion, but that is never going to happen... :banghead:

With CGI, films are getting worse, not better, esp with the horror genre. We need to get back to the old makeup days of the howling, american werewolf in london and Hammer Horror films and their kin.

I long for the days when movies had to actually tell a story as opposed to now when they just throw a bunch of effects at you...  :hippy:

But it is the same with all media - books, films, music.... Just shock the people with base emotion crap and you will never have to worry about actual content.....

I heard about a REAL horror flick on the radio today: it's a documentary about Enron. :headbang:

I agree with you 100% Daniel on the hollow state of most of today's horror flims.

It's like that old cliche:

"If you were the last horror movie on earth I wouldn't watch you!"

:cussing:

Wake up Hollywood!   :pissedoff:
