Darkus Markus, you have a wonderful way with words, and I wish you would grace us with more of your poetic works.  (And Leilah, as soon as I can justify it, I will definitely be buying more of your books.  Our Name is Melancholy is my most treasured work of written nature.)

Morgan, i am stunned..... i shall never forget your kind words of encouragement.....they were totally unexpected...... i will do my best to die up to them here for you and all the rest  :color:

unchained spirit, your prayer is wonderfully filled with sorrow, yet pressed against the Consolation of Azrael one senses hope through Death.  It is staggering to imagine that which Death has saved us from-- so much pain, so much sorrow and insanity....so many good things too, still Azrael does know full well the future spin on things, how goodness can be preserved from evil exploitation through temporary absence, only to rise again at a later time,  how it sets those soon to waver once again upon the path they truly seek.....my faith in Azrael as my true protector is bolstered by prayers such as yours, unchained spirit  :rose:

Thanx for your comments, Darkus Markus.
The idea of hope in death, or placing hope in death, is central to my spirituality.
There are expressions of love that help to negate what Kurtz calls "the horror" in Apocalypse Now.  Death is one of them.  One need only negate it, not destroy it.
Mourning is said to deepen hearts and spirits.  If this be true, then how much greater are the possibilities for happiness in the future.

Quote:  THAT I MIGHT BEGIN ANEW
UNENCUMBERED
SAVE BY MY FATE AND DESTINY  end quote.

Your prayer carries more or less the same sentiment about hope in death, distilled.

Come to me, oh Azrael
Through the fervor of this night,
Black ashes i have placed upon my skull
In ground my feet are buried,
I am still at Thy approach and
The Seven bear witness to that
Which will take place between us here
In the darkness of this night.
Look upon me that i might know
Of remembrances and of
Things that are to come,
Be they with me or without me.
As the embers of the fire die before me
So does all manner of my thinking
That my mind might be clear and quiet
To heed the silence of Thy song,
The song of Death that resonates
Upon Thy wings,
Oh Great Deliverer

Ave Azrael

Quote (darkus markus @ Nov. 28 2004,9:11 pm)
Are there any here who pray to Azrael?  Is your prayer historical, contemporary, or of your own composition? Has it been effective? Would you care to share the prayer?

Personally, each action I make with the intent to honor Azrael in some way - every day. Some days are easier than others, and he understands that. I feel repetitive prayer is just that- repetition. While I may recite verbal dedications to him occasionally, it's not habitual.

The Reaper came that day;
'Twas an Angel visited the green earth,
And took the flowers away.

It's a beautiful read, though; and I can really identify.  Let's put it this way.  If ANY psychopomp appeared at my front door, no one on this board is  going to hear from me again; be it Azrael, Donn, Thanatos, Anubis, Mors, Yama. . .  (Would they give me time to log on to the internet say good-bye to the Westgate gang, first?)

Sio, i am staggered by your devotion to the Death Angel....to pair each action with intent to honor Azrael--there can be no greater form of constant prayer.....
Morgan, your concept has inspired me---to leave all behind for Azreal...
writer's block has not as yet set down upon me--funny, i thought by now i would have been bled dry....thought this prayer up through the course of yester-night--- i wonder what all this will lead to....

Azrael, i beckon unto Thee
Come forth from the Triunity
Into the center of the three
For that is where i am forced to dwell
And where You will come to find me,
The place where i was made
And am compeled to be.

Rise up from below the Earth
From the realm of Shades and Shadows
From things already Dead and gone,
Remembered or forgotten
To be reborn or never to return
From them have i descended.

Fly down from the Skies above
Wherein the Heavens stay
Skies from whence spewed forth the Chaos
From which all things are made
For there was i envisioned.

Move up from the mystery of the Seas
From the depths of flowing Oceans
From snow and ice and rain and steam
Commenced the seed of my construction
In wash was i concieved.

And when You come into the place
Where I'm supposed to be
Grant that i might bound away
And be free to stay with Thee.

Ave Azrael
