The best things in life are free...or at least cheap.

I was just reading in the scents, odours thread, thinking of something to say, when it hit me: Why not expand on that thought?  I think about simple pleasures all the time, and would like to discuss this topic with friends, but never know how to bring it up.  Now I do.

Here are some things that make me happy:
A cool breeze on a hot day.
A quiet cup of coffee, or tea, with a good friend, or alone.
Being the first person to walk in new-fallen snow.
Lying on the grass and spotting shapes in the clouds.

I will have to agree that you are right! I personally love walking the streets all alone in the dead of the night...

This is all pretty on the theoretical side, being it can't happen, but. . .

1) Sharing a cup of tea with my 2  favourite psychopomps
2) Walking through deserted cemetary, park, beach, street at night with. . .(I'm not going to retype my 2 favourite psychopomps a dozen or so times.)
3) Snoggin with. . .
4) Sitting on the couch with one or the other above mentioned or not mentioned reading me/us Longfellow, Shelley, Byron, Angelou, Plath or Maro.
5) Makin' out with. . .
6) Going for a horseback ride with. . .
7) Watching the worst (best?) of Ed Wood videos with popcorn and root beer with. . .
8) Jammin' with. . .
9) Sittin' on a hill, watchin' the sunset with. . .

Now to reality. . .
10) Being in bed with all 5 cats.
11) Dying of a datura or nutmeg overdose.
12) Completing a good poem or drawing.
13) Finding a new poem on the Westgate poetry thread by somebody else beside me (Hint, hint, hint)
14) Snorting roses, magnolias, gardenias, alyssum. . .
15) Doing button pushing guerrila theatre in public.
16) Thinking up new ways to to ream my worthless breeder cow bitch incubator, not that I'll ever see her again.
17) Bitching.
18) Meditating.
19) Coming into a warm apartment from a 30 degree outside, with a hot cup of creamed lychee black tea waiting for me.
20) Thinking up ways to be the paragon of obnoxiousness. (How am I doing?)
21) Tropical fruit mousse pies with whipped cream.

The birds sang in the wet trees
And as I listened to them it was a hundred years from now
And I was dead and someone else was listening to them.
But I was glad I had recorded for him
The melancholy.

Cool!  Just remember, there can only be one ultimate paragon. :eyemouth:  I challenge you to a duel to outdo me, dude!  (Ooh, this is going to be fun, if you play.)  Should we start a new thread on obnoxious sayings, along the lines of 'Kill 'em all!  God'll sort 'em out'?  I've already go tons of cannibalism comments, ways to psychologically devistate children, and socially unacceptable comments on death on this forum.  In fact, I really disturbed someone who barely missed the Vietnam war, and lost a lot of friends in it, by commenting on the traffic situation (which he was bitching about) getting better, because of the upcoming draft taking out a half a generation of people, and I just wouldn't let up with the iconocalstic statements.  He's a store checker, and I guess next week I'll just have to wear my Westgate T-Shirt, and explain "I'm a Westgater, dude.  I have two death gods, and a very morbid sense of humour."

Hm!  Got a little  :offt: here.  Oh well.

Another of my favorites, as well.  The only thing I like better than that is, while walking in winter, a light snow begins to fall.  Of course, the last time I went walking at night in winter (or late autumn) I almost got frostbitten.  It was only 25 degrees Farenheit.  With a windchill of about 10.  It didn't snow, though.

Walking outside definitely ranks high, as does sitting under the stars just listening to nature....the clatter-dance of dead leaves along a sidewalk as they're tossed by a light breeze...the whir of wings and the crisp music of insects...the smell on the air and the light tap of rain hitting the earth as it's just beginning to fall...the distant throb of stars through the clouds and the whisper of the trees. Nothing better....

A dark and misty day spent wandering through Mountain View Cemetery...listening to Myke Hideous' words on cd...watching a good horror flick with my kids...reading a good book, and losing myself to a haunting painting or photograph or words shared... a sketch completed...a tale written...candlelight...hmmm, and the list goes on... :rose:  rip  :rose:

A rainy or stormy day with a good book or a long nap.
A long hot bath surrounded by candles and a little incense.
A day to myself to relax, do whatever I want even if it's absolutely nothing.
Petting my kitties and listenening to them purr.
Play doh and coloring with my kid (yeah, seriously!)

Looking out the window and seeing the years first real snow -especially at night.
Walking on the beach at night.
Stargazing
Walks in the forest and in cemetaries.
Spending time with my husband watching a good movie.
Hot chocolate on a cold day.
Reading to my son.
Watching my sons eyes light up when he is happy.

So many more... I have learned to savor the smaller, simpler things in life. Years ago my life was more fast paced and my priorities and what I considered pleasurable and fun was much different. I was all about clubbing in New York going to shows and meeting the bands and shopping there. Getting married and having a child unveiled a more mellow, laid back Saintantress, although I do still enjoy dressing to kill, a good buzz, great music and dancing my ass off!

I have neither the room, the time or the money; but what I would really absolutely love in theory, is to buy about 1820 Lego sets, and build a castle that would put (50% of my ancestry) the Germans to shame.  (Is that possible?)
