You can laugh all you want at this but here it goes

This morning I came home from work to find out from one of my roomates that my lovers pet canary died, actually it was her mothers, she was taking care of it.  My lover left it in it's cage in the bathroom because our bedroom was getting to cold for it, and the cage fell off the toilet killing the bird.  My lover came home for lunch and I stayed awake to see her.
Gently she took the dead bird from it's cage, and gently stroked it's feathers as if it was still alive, saying his name and geantly wrapped him in toilet paper and placed him in a box.  :(
I wondered suddenly if animals have souls and if Azrael takes them too. . . . I doubt it.

The birds still alive in her memories of the pet... I did the samething when my hamsters died, my black cat & savanna monitor... I didn't use toilet paper thoe... All of them got a proper burial with fine cloth inside antique caskets.

Azrael is for humans but, I'm sure we have a birdy death angel for this type of spiecies.

Animals do have humanistic responses... Such as physical pain, awareness of whats going on around them, instincts, having emosions such as anger, fear, anxiaty, meloncholy, a sex drive and have an ability to cummunicate with other animals. All humanistic responses.

The majority of humanity today focuses more on technology. Rather then our natural sences to cummune with other animals or higher forms of communication such as telepathy or esp.

Hi Azriel!

Of course animals have souls! And Azrael CAN come for them as well if He so chooses. As someone who has never personally spoken to an animal regarding this, I cannot say for certain that animals in general are taken by Azrael personally, but He IS the Great Transmuter, and animals are no less than humans when it comes to the shifting of their life=forces from flesh into spirit. Both Daniel and I can attest to the reality of animal spirits staying with you long after they're gone. In fact, a cat I had several years ago had a particular affinity for a wall sculpture I have of Azrael and used to sleep right beneath it, while my other cat was terrified of the same sculpture. So..who knows? Even among the animal kingdom there are those who resonate to the death energy.

Azriel, I would never laugh at the passing of a pet...I tend to give animal's lives more respect than people's.  I'm sorry about the canary's passing...  As far as animals having souls, I certainly believe they do...more so than most people!    There's a place that pet owners talk about, it's called the Rainbow Bridge.  The tale is kinda silly, but the concept of a place where our pets go until they are someday reunited with us is a sound and comforting thought.  I had to help one of my ferrets 'cross the Bridge' in January, and I think of her there, dancing and playing and healthy again.  I'm sure the canary is there, too, singing and brightening the day.  :cheesy:

I have been haveing a difficult time grasping the concept of death in general.  I fear my own, and don't understand anyone elses.  I looked at the bird and just didn't understand "Yopu mean it wont sing anymore??  I wont move and chirp??  It's not just sleeping??"  That's what runs through my mind sometimes, I find it difficult to grasp the idea that, that creature which one moved and chirped and sang, will no longer in the slowly decaying flesh and feathers.
Same when I visited a morge, I looked at the body of an older woman, looked into her face expecting her eyes to snap open and ask me what am I doing here.  It's like, they still seemed alive somhow.  Like I could feel fait traces of their personality and my mind was not used to looking at a host of which the soul has left, strange feeling.

I am Azriel's rambling mouth (see fight club if you don't laugh at this)

Personally, I feel that "a soul is a soul is a soul...." It doesn't matter whether that soul was a human, animal or any other kind of soul.....

Firstly, though, let me offer my condolences on the loss of your lovers canary.... Sometimes it is the more subtle things which can hit us the hardest.... But try and look at it this way - the canary has gone "home", back to where he or she came from.

I recently had to put my 25 year old cat to sleep, this past Dec., just before x-mas. I have known his soul much longer than I have known many people. So I can honestly say to you that yes, animal's souls are just as important as people's souls (and sometimes more pure). And I have felt his presence since his passing.... It's difficult to describe, I can just feel him around, sometimes. But then, he had kept me company through slightly more than two thirds of my life.... (I am 36, I had him as a companion since I was 11 years old..)

I have also buried quite a few cats, my own as well as strays that got run over here in New Orleans. I always try to take some sort of personal responsibility for the souls of the strays, for they never had anyone to care about them, at all. I just try to remember them and hope that "home" is kind to them, granting them access unto the "eternal purr", or at the very least a trip back here into a good home, or a well stocked hunting ground ;)

Sometimes the hardest thing about Death is to realize that we will never again know the touch, sight, sound, smell or feel of that which has passed. And at times it is this which is what makes us grieve. But, if you reflect upon that soul's freedom from the physical form, if even for a brief time until it reincarnates (or not).... well, there is something in that which may or may not make the grieving less harsh ;)

If a soul has enriched your life, you will remember them always, and if you have touched others, they will remember you always.... This is part of how things continue.....
