Quote (dnekm @ Sep. 19 2006,2:27am)
No... See, Osama and the pope and dubya just perpetuate the stereotypes.... They reinforce the hard line distinctions while doing nothing towards blurring the similarities together, because to their own ends it serves no purpose...

Yes, but their extremism DOES serve a purpose - to open the eyes of those who turned to hierarchical religions for a sense of connection.  Intelligent people are breaking the bonds of indoctrination in droves, and either abandoning their erstwhile paths entirely or trying to RTFM for the first time ever and saying, "Hey, it says 'murdering people to get rich or powerful is a bad idea' in here."

Humanity is still in its infancy, and whether we like it or not, will be looking over its shoulder for Mommie or Daddie for generations to come.  But if Big Brother gets ugly enough that we start to suspect him, we'll start to take it with a grain of salt when he tells us that Mommie and Daddie want us to win lots of fights on the playground.

Love, Columbine

Oh Daniel,
You have ripped the scab off my festering wound! I relate to your frustration and I think some good things have been shared here. I have thought about and believe that the fundamenalists (christian, muslim, jew, etc) do, indeed, thwart humankind's spiritual evalution, are the cause of war, and rob people of many freedoms but, do we really want to kill Divinity because some of the followers are ignorant? I used to be one of those ignorant followers and a Pagan enlightened me - not by manipulation or anger - but by kindness and tolerance. We've all been ignorant and one time or another and evalution takes such a long time :banghead: What you and Leilah do (and encourage the rest of us to do) is to keep our eyes on Azrael and the Lady, keep our minds open, and be ready to accept all who would be a part of us. Well there, I've said it - but what the hell do I Know!

Heck, nobody wants to "kill divinity" just mankind's interpretation of it all. Divinity is something shared between one soul and the Eternal NOT something you acquire in a building full of sheep repenting their "sins" and putting money (they don't have) in a coffer.

Divinity is the flip side of the animalistic coin. We are BOTH, animal AND divine. That's what sets us apart from the goats and cows of the world, BUT are we anymore intelligent? I can't recall the last time I saw a herd of goats on their knees at an altar before a dead jew on a stick. Can you?

If you kill religion, you ALSO have to kill patriotism, because BOTH entail the "I'm better than you" philosophy that mankind enjoys bandying about.

P.,S. Holden, glad you see you baring your fangs for a change  :hippy:

*laughs so hard she is rolling on the floor*

*wipes her eyes*

Man, funny comment.

I think animals know those parts way better than us..they are walking in the real world, living in it, hearing it, but humans hide in that fake shell theyīve created, and started to name parts of the world where there werenīt cities or "development" going on as "nature" and apparently in most pplīs minds NATURE is a part of the "world", they never think the idea "nature IS world, itīs just not inhabited by a bunch of loonies trying to find gas and oil and working their asses off to afford food and diapers!"

Because without "nature" you wouldnīt have a ground to build on, itīs what the world really is, what humans have built is alittle like covering a ball with a plastic bag or something, scribble on it with a marker and then believe the ball is the minor part of it, and the scribble means everything.

Remove the plastic, and lo and behold *sniggers* I couldnīt help it, sorry...Anyway, the ball is as it were.

Human "world" is the scribble on the ball, as I see it.

Religion is for the immature.  My incubator had me visited by a JW for a while, I went to an Islamic camp for a week, and studied that for a while (Don't see the appeal.), was hooked on witchcraft (These guys know how to have fun.), studied Hinduism, Judaism, the PHILOSOPHY of Buddhism, Lakota,  ancient Pagan of various cultures, and settled on non-denominational Pagan/Krishnamurti hybrid.  Religion helps some, destroys some, and I think Ted Turner had it right, though I can't recall his exact words.  Didn't he call it a crutch when Jane Fonda went born again, or something like that?

Gods, what is wrong with that woman?!

One way to get out of thinking for a living.  Abdicate a degree of responsibility.  Just follow tradition, and keep the world in the fucked up state it's in that 'tradition' got it to begin with.  People are terrified of change.

Makes you want to get the megaphone, stand on the rooftop and yell, "CHANGE CAN BE GOOD, YOU BOZOS!!!!!!!"

Hey Leilah,
Killing religion is a marvelous idea but it is a biiig, multinational corporation $ $ $. I become so frustrated with this whole thing, I just want to go out and bash them all - but then I would be just like them. And entertaining these thoughts (if only as sarcastic ranting) leaves me out of sync with the things that matter most. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, it was not my intent.

I , also, want to clear something up here...

I do NOT want to kill divinity....

But, Charnel man, like you I just wish that everyone would realize that the link to the divine is something that we all hold precious within us, and for each of us, it is different...

I apologize if I am puting words in your mouth...

But it is those amongst us who use religion as an excuse for their behaviour, who use it as an excuse to invade, control (or attempt to control) our behaviour, or as an excuse for their own behaviour.....

Religion - should be something which is entirely a personal interaction between yourself and the rest of the universe and the godsoul..... There should be NO intermediaries.... It is an entirely personal experience.... The raw unfolding of your own soul to the rest of existence, and the resultant discourse or experience that results therefrom....

These things can be shared, but should not be considered dogma or law or anything else.. just... guidelines...

Things to consider...

If there is indeed a god, or gods... I find it very difficult to believe that he/she/it or they would command anyone to put others unto death for simply not believing the same thing...

I just wish that mankind as a whole would no longer fall for this stupid shit.... It is all ego based and power plays...

Hey Daniel
I truely agree with everything you just said - no ifs, ands, or buts. I wasn't defending religion or its atrocities, I havn't a clue on how to stop the bastards, and probably should have kept my fingers off the keyboard!

Mmmm...maybe we can get the nutters to keep -their- fingers off the keyboard..and matches...and stupid protest-signs that says "this/that will burn because of blah-blah"..

Canīt see how though..Itīs no point in pointing out that that jesus-dude or anyone else they whine about, no matter what religion it is, DIDNīT use force, violence, threats and DIDNīT condemn people because of what or who they were or did.
