It's not so much the medical industry that's the problem as is the fact that various governments want to play god and put Doctor's in a position that if they DO assist the terminally ill into an easeful death, they may face prosecution. Look at Kevorkian, for Pete's sake! No wonder doctors fear doing what they know they SHOULD do.

I would like to see you dance project, RaveSpire, when it is finished! Will it be taped?

One of the nifty things about living in OR is that, for now, anyway, we DO have a death with dignity act on the books, but that :cussing: Ashcroft is trying to defang it by making docs so afraid to prescribe lethal-merciful-doses of drugs that most won't even consider the possibility!
Now, the Catholic Church won't tell you this, but suicide wasn't banned until the 4th century.  There was a sect called the Donatists who decided that they wanted to go to heaven RIGHT NOW, so they took to offing themselves.  But since dead people don't pay tithes and they're no fun to torture, the Pope declared it a sin. These so-called "christians" are just looking for a new Inquisition: it doesn't matter what the issue.  Their god would weep tears of blood at their barbarous inhumanity to their fellow beings based on their OWN FEAR!

Now that's interesting. And btw, gotta love your blatancy.

--And I've alway thought it figures that gov's. would play god when they are so driven by their religions, and make all decisions based upon them, instead of common interests. Nicely put, Leilah.

I worked in a private nursing home for a few months as a temp, and I think that every lawmaker who is against death with dignity should have to care for those who are kept hovering between life and death.  What kind of existence do they have?  Lying in bed and watching bad TV ALL DAY/ALL NIGHT long?  Sounds like HELL to me!  I won't even comment on the "food."  Please understand, the people who worked there truly cared--most of them anyway.  They were understaffed, underpaid and at the mercy of an unfeeling bureaucracy/administration whose primary concern was making a buck while ostensibly soothing their conscience.
Don't get me started :cussing:

I think Euthanasia is a wonderful thing. I mean if I were diagnosed with a fatal illness, I would do everything I could and see everything I wanted to see. When the quality of life expires, whether or not you're stiil breathing matters not. At that point, to me life would be over. I would euthanize myself if need be so as to not be a burden to the people I love. I don't want anyone I love to witness my suffering.
Amorte!

:cat: My first familiar was a Black and white persian name Tuxido that I had from the time I was Three till I was twenty-two, When the time came that it was obvious she was no longer finding joy in life I let her go and has her euthanised. It was the hardest thing I had to do, but I did it, because it was what was best for her. I knew I couldn't keep her in pain just to satisfy my own selfish desire. now if I can show her that kind of respect and compasion, shouldn't I show it to the important humans in my life, like say my mother and father.
My mother works in an ICU and she always being sickened by the people who insist on keeping thier "loved one" trapped in hellish exsistence just so they do't have o face the pain of letting go. I can't belive they don't see how selfish thier being.
Intrestingly enoug she says that the relatives who exibit this behavior are almost always the ones that have been estanged from the patient in question up until the time of the illness. :banghead:

"Too much, too late."  Making up for lost time - except it doesn't work.  You can't replace appreciation with suffering.

I worked at a cancer research hospital for 7 1/2 years.  The family members who were close to the patients were very easy to deal with.  The ones who'd avoided or ignored the patients made the staff's life difficult with panicked, guilt-driven demands, as well as insisting on "heroic measures" until the doctors and nurses had to say, at their own legal peril, "I can't do this, it's unethical."

I personally feel that everyone has the right to die-- whenever they truly feel the desire to do so. Not quite sure who these politicians are who think that they have the right to tell people whether or not they are allowed to die. Against the law to commit suicide? WTF ever... It's my life, my body.... I have the right to end it anytime that I see fit. And for all of the religious, pious, Bible-thumping zealots-- ...go fuck yourself. I am sick of you pushing your own personal beliefs on me!!!!!!!!

I don't believe in pushing your own beliefs and religion on other people either Dellamorte.  I once had a Jehovah's Witness begin to approach me......I was all in black....so full of the death energy I was oozing and her mouth dropped as I looked @ her .....she actually looked frightened and rushed away from me.  BOO!!!! :eyemouth:   Gotta love it when that happens.

Love,
