One of the nifty things about living in OR is that, for now, anyway, we DO have a death with dignity act on the books, but that Ashcroft is trying to defang it by making docs so afraid to prescribe lethal-merciful-doses of drugs that most won't even consider the possibility!
Now, the Catholic Church won't tell you this, but suicide wasn't banned until the 4th century. There was a sect called the Donatists who decided that they wanted to go to heaven RIGHT NOW, so they took to offing themselves. But since dead people don't pay tithes and they're no fun to torture, the Pope declared it a sin. These so-called "christians" are just looking for a new Inquisition: it doesn't matter what the issue. Their god would weep tears of blood at their barbarous inhumanity to their fellow beings based on their OWN FEAR!
Let me guide myself with the blue, forked torch of this flower
down the darker and darker stairs where blue is darkened on blueness
even where Persephone goes, just now, from the frosted September
to the sightless realm where darkness was awake upon the dark
