I stand at the edge of a bluff overlooking the dark, rushing
The black, steel train bridge stretches across the River,
tattooing the azure sky, like the handiwork of some forgotten
I plunge into the River that ever murmurs my name in hushed,
The current wraps around me, and gently tugs me into the depths of the secret darkness.
I peer upwards for one last glimpse of the familiar sky,
through the shroud of the glacially cold water.
I am suspended in the welcoming dark of the River,
drifting on its currents that my ears perceive as siren songs
rising from the deep.
My heart thunders in my chest.
My lungs cry out for breath,
and the blood burns in my veins-
longing for oxygen.
Still I remained submerged,
knowing that I shall enter the cavern beneath the River.
Inside the cavern, I break the surface of the underground River,
filling my lungs with the cool, damp air that few have breathed.
I marvel at the smooth, alabaster stone
illuminated as if by a hidden moon.
I make my way out of the water, up the footholds of the
towards the portal opened to a brilliant blue sky.
Your face appears- skin honey-bronzed by the desert sun.
Burning eyes so impossibly blue, my heart aches at the sight
Your golden, honey-brown hair ruffled by the slight breeze.
Your hands meet mine, lifting me through the portal,
into the desert scape of my dreams.
I glance back at the way I had come,
to find it now transformed into a glimmering spring, nestled in
I remember this alien place from dreams.
Where rocks tinged red by the unrelenting sun,
the bare bones of the earth exposed,
and worn down by the ravages of Time.
They cover this barren realm
and form smooth hills, rocky plains, and towering plateaus.
are pools of crystalline water,
that reflect the blue of the sky by day,
and by night, mirror the ebon darkness ablaze with unfamiliar
Long ago we met, in this place out of Time.
For a brief moment, all our dearest hopes seemed a possibility.
But we awoke to find it all a barely remembered dream,
that danced like sunlight at the edges of our memories.
With our hands entwined,
We could do nothing except stare at one another.
No longer haunted by the memories of our dreams.
For now our dreams have merged.
Giving form to the life once thought impossible to us.
In the distance, a verdant wood beckons.
Twilight softens the landscape,
transforms the desert into a gentler place.
Shades of amethyst and corn flower blue
halo everything with a wistful glow.
"Come," You whisper, in a voice like the shadowed night.
Love is lost to us no longer.
Eternity awaits us beyond the Twilight."
This poem came to me in a reoccurring dream.
"In the dark of night,
or under blazing sun.
In Sorrow or in Joy-
Ever I will be with you.
And when this life falls away,
I will lead you Home."
