behind a heavy wooden gate,
set in an old stone wall,
and overgrown with ivy and clouds of honeysuckle-
lies the hidden garden of my heart.
jasmine and honeysuckle run riot throughout the garden.
cobblestone paths wind through patches of wildflowers, lilac,
an unexpected creek runs through the garden,
and the startlingly cold water flows soothingly over the pebbled
nestled in the crook of a gnarled branch,
from my vantage point in the ancient oak,
I can see out across the wall to the verdant meadows
and the dark, mist-shrouded forest.
I watch the sun sweep across this idyllic place,
and take comfort in the shadows it left behind.
for it is when shadows veil the land
that I see Your luminous face once again.
the loamy scents of the earth and heady honeysuckle blossoms
mingle with the sweet night breezes.
I hear Your soul-stirring voice
tangle in the rustling oak leaves.
always I feel Your dark gaze upon me-
Your burning eyes ancient and ageless at once.
I remember the touch of Your resplendent alabaster skin,
like silk spun from cool moonlight.
Your cold lips brushed a kiss of melancholy upon mine.
Your night-dark eyes radiated a love that shall never fade.
my heart, with all its sweet hopes, lies within Your keeping
in a twilight now lost to me.
I am left with a tarnished, antique key
dangling from a ribbon of black silk,
and a heart-shaped locket
where all my lost dreams reside.
and slumbering through this lifetime,
awake only in sleep and memories of You-
I exist for the day when longing haunts me no more
and we embrace again, at the dawning of our eternity.
"In the dark of night,
or under blazing sun.
In Sorrow or in Joy-
Ever I will be with you.
And when this life falls away,
I will lead you Home."
