i dug up another one...

      awakening

in distant antiquity
You stepped forth from primal night.
before recorded history,
You were already ancient to men.
the ages passed and Your Name
was known, then forgotten.

once You walked beside us in waking moments,
and accompanied us in our dreams.
but fickle are the whims of mankind,
who turned away from Your serene Presence.
patiently You awaited the end of man's amnesia,
knowing someday the mists
would dissipate under the blaze of our awakening.

I was one of those whose minds
slumbered under the shroud of the ages of forgetfulness.
Your image swept the fog away.
Your night-dark eyes,
and Your smooth, wondrous voice,
awakened in me a half-forgotten dream-
or perhaps a long lost memory...

on the shores of a sacred lake.
under a canopy of glittering stars.
You took my hand, banishing my soul-jarring lonliness.
and my heart filled with a song of exquisite joy.

Your Name is honey upon my lips and
a prayer that echoes in my soul.
love as endless as a starry winter sky,
and deeper than any ocean,

that even Time cannot diminish-
envelopes us in its euphoric cloud.
Your lips meet mine for one last time,
imprinting Your memory upon my soul.

this next one is a poem from one of the many short stories that i am working on. it is a poem that didn't seem to come from me, rather it appeared to come from one of the main characters in the story(all my characters have minds of their own, or so it seems, and end up doing whatever takes their fancy)

         devotion

the reeds sway their graceful dance to the
  sweet courting winds.
the ebony sky cradles the pearl white moon in
 his arms.
the nightingale sings her lullabye to a
 distant glittering star,
as my heart sings to yours, this song of love
that even Time cannot diminish.
you are my love
as I am yours.
let our love envelope us and
lull us ever so gently to sleep,
 in its beautiful splendor.
let our dreams be filled with the scent of jasmine,
the golden sun-disk burning gloriously in the azure sky,
and the moon's silvery glow amidst a sea of velvet.
and when I awaken from slumber,
may my eyes gaze upon the loveliness of your face,
and your smile that is the sun, which shines within my soul.

Awakening REALLY struck a chord with me, but I like them both.  Keep 'em coming.

hidden garden

behind a heavy wooden gate,
set in an old stone wall,
and overgrown with ivy and clouds of honeysuckle-
lies the hidden garden of my heart.

jasmine and honeysuckle run riot throughout the garden.
cobblestone paths wind through patches of wildflowers, lilac,
  and lavender.
an unexpected creek runs through the garden,
and the startlingly cold water flows soothingly over the pebbled
  bottom.

nestled in the crook of a gnarled branch,
from my vantage point in the ancient oak,
I can see out across the wall to the verdant meadows
and the dark, mist-shrouded forest.

I watch the sun sweep across this idyllic place,
and take comfort in the shadows it left behind.
for it is when shadows veil the land
that I see Your luminous face once again.

the loamy scents of the earth and heady honeysuckle blossoms
mingle with the sweet night breezes.
I hear Your soul-stirring voice
tangle in the rustling oak leaves.

always I feel Your dark gaze upon me-
Your burning eyes ancient and ageless at once.
I remember the touch of Your resplendent alabaster skin,
like silk spun from cool moonlight.

Your cold lips brushed a kiss of melancholy upon mine.
Your night-dark eyes radiated a love that shall never fade.
my heart, with all its sweet hopes, lies within Your keeping
in a twilight now lost to me.

I am left with a tarnished, antique key
dangling from a ribbon of black silk,
and a heart-shaped locket
where all my lost dreams reside.

and slumbering through this lifetime,
awake only in sleep and memories of You-
I exist for the day when longing haunts me no more
and we embrace again, at the dawning of our eternity.
