Anubis
Yinepu
Anpu
Claimer of Hearts
He Who Is Upon His Mountain
Your ancient Names echo in my mind.
Your Presence is remembered from beyond antiquity...

In those early days in the Sacred Black Land,
Men and Women lit fires and huddled around them-
Fearful of Death and the unknown dangers in the darkness.

You came forth from that primal darkness-
All long limbs and lean muscles,
Your white teeth flashing a dark, feral smile.

Your eyes-
Darker than the spaces between the stars,
Gaze into the most secret realms of every heart.

You were protection and solace
From mankind’s greatest fear-
Death.

“Death is only the beginning.”
You took their hand
And led them to the Otherworld.

In the Hall of the Two Truths,
You presided over the Weighing of the Heart.
And on Maat’s Scale, the heart was weighed
Against Her Feather of Truth.

Light hearts that were pure,
Went on to rest and rebirth.
But heavy hearts that were filled with darkness,
Were fed to the Devouress of Souls.

“Fear not, for few souls are found to be too heavy.
For even then, the God’s take mercy.
Humans are both light and dark.”
You reassure with a solemn smile.

For millennia, You protected and guided mankind.
Your serene Presence assured that
Death was not the end.

Throughout Egypt
Your sleek Jackal image was immortalized
On the walls of temples, tombs, and monuments.

Then one day,
You became hidden
From the world.

Man remembered You not.
Death became the enemy.
Fear of the unknown grew
In the hearts of mankind.

The Ages passed slowly,
But Your patience was unwavering,
As You waited silently
In the doorway in our minds.

The doorway that is the gateway between the worlds.

You knew the day would come
When man awakened and remembered,
That which had been forgotten for so long.
When man again remembered
The Gods of Old...

And so one day,
I happened upon Your image.
I whispered Your name-
And Remembered.

Then with candles lit and incense smoking,
I reached out to You-
As You were reaching for me.

The Peace of the Full Moon
Shining upon the desert sands.
The stillness of a cold
Winter’s night enveloped me,
As You took my hand-
And my heart swelled with Joy.

“In the dark of night,
Or under blazing sun.
In sorrow or in Joy-
Ever I will be with you.
And when this life falls away,
I will lead you Home.”

Gods, I hope to see a lot more of this.  Beautiful.  Absolutely beautiful.  Anubis is one of my faves, though I don't have a poetic relationship with him.   He only visited one dream in my life, and it was just to 'check me out'.  It was a long time ago.

Thanks, Morgan. I'm glad you enjoyed my poem...I was a little hesitant to post it, as I really do not consider myself a particularly good poet. Short stories are more up my alley, although lately I have been feeling a wee bit more poetic than usual. And this praise-poem practically wrote itself- I literally could not do anything else until I finished writing the poem.

There's a place for that here, too!!!!!!  :2bounce:  :2bounce:  :2bounce: Drool, drool!  Hurry up and post!!!!!!   :2bounce:  :2bounce:  :2bounce:

(Gods, I can be sooooo impolite, but hey!  This is my favourite part of the forum, and there's not too many posters in this section any more.  Considering the wonderful wording of the poem, I can't wait.)

Here goes another one...

  yearning

The thinning of the Veil,
the opening of the door,
the sighing of the wind,
stirs the yearning in my heart.

The creaking of tree boughs,
the rustle of dead leaves,
the unyielding ground underfoot,
transforms this place into a frozen ethereal realm.

The stars in velvet sky,
the air freezing every breath,
the stark beauty of bare trees,
leads me to marvel at this beautiful isolation.

The silence of eternal night,
surrounds body and soul.
The stillness croons a melancholy song,
that only my heart perceives.

The moonlight shrouds the darkness
in a luminous spectral blue.
A splendorous sorrow and exquisite longing,
is the sound of your voice carried on the haunted air.

The touch of your spectral hand upon my cheek,
the momentary brush of your cool lips upon mine,
the fleeting glimpse of your ancient, unfathomable eyes,
leaves me with bittersweet melancholy at our parting.

Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, the factory, and still own it.  That was absolutely gorgeous.  You are one of several on this forum who's eloquence leaves me in the dust.

I finally wrote another poem....

        dark love
she sits forlorn in a darkened room,
illuminated by the candle's glow,
that cast looming shadows on the walls.

she stares into the flickering flames
as lonliness settles its leaden arm about her,
and whispers sorrowful sweet nothings in her ear.

the wind rushes through bare trees in a roaring crescendo.
skeletal limbs scratch at the window,
sending snaking chills down her spine.

at once the wind subsides and the boughs grow still.
a light footfall and a rustle of fabric
banishes lonliness to the Winter's night.

subtle scents of jasmine and honeysuckle waft in
on the ghost of a summer's evening breeze,
that catches her breath and floods her being with joy.

he steps out of the shadows-
alabaster skin illuminated like moonlight,
and raven wings hair shimmering in the candlefire.

his cool, pale hands touch her face
as she stares up into his ancient, ebony eyes;
and drowns in the midnight sky reflected there.

"I have not forgotten you."
his melodic voice is the memory of moonlight sparking off
    cemetary stones,
and the twilight blanketing the land in an amethyst haze.

visions of the cemetary at midnight blossom in her mind.
of how the stillness permeated deep within her bones,
and how she longed forever to remain, nestled among the
    grass and stones.

he pulls her into the dark haven of his embrace,
that is scented with freshly turned grass and earth,
and of autumn leaves and cool white stones in a mid-winter's
     night.

the steady beat of his heart
is the endless ticking of some great clock
that transcends all Time and echoes into Eternity.

his lips meet hers in a feathery-soft kiss,
that hints of cinnamon and vanilla,
and of bittersweet longing.

"our time together is but a fleeting dream of happiness
that eludes our grasp like the silvered moonlight."
his achingly beautiful voice weaves a cloak of sweet
    melancholy about her.

"one day," he murmurs, his voice a whisper on the wind,
"we shall never be parted.
I exist for that day and ever shall I long for it."

his night-dark eyes gaze into her soul,
imprinting his memory there;
that no power in heaven or earth can ever erase.

all too soon, he fades into the shadows,
leaving a wistful blue spark of hope
and the soul stirring shroud of his love.

here comes another one...

     lost twilight

perched upon a gentle hill, overlooking verdant forests
  and endless hayfields,
the antique cemetary has long been forgotten by
  human devotion.
etched names worn by time, wind, and water-
  lay hidden by creeping ivy.
crumbling monuments, fallen angels, honeysuckle-shrouded
 mausoleums-
all adrift on a sea of feather soft grass.

crossing the threshold, the weeping trees beckon.
the gentle breeze stirring the boughs,
  rustling leaves murmuring my name.
the setting sun catches the western horizon ablaze in
  fiery shades,
and the sky softens into an amethyst glow as twilight
 descends.

in the dimming of the day, I find your stone,
fingers tracing the faded etching of your name.
so very long ago we met, perchance in a dream
  or the waking world.
it matters not-for the memory of your presence
  haunts me still.

stars appear in the ebon sky.
silence looms- subtle and profound.
the moon rises gracefully in the heavens,
her silvered light caressing the land.

stretching out upon your grave,
nestling deep into the blanket of cool grass-
its heady sweetness intoxicating my senses,
as the dark earth embraces my world-weary bones.

the luminous shadow of your being appears-
your spectral fingers entwining with mine.
gazing into your dark, burning eyes-
spending centuries lost in their unfathomable depths.

in the sacredness of the night.
in the stillness of the cemetary.
among the bones and stones, earth and grass
the lost memory of the joy you inspired, eludes me no longer.

I reread the whole thread, and I wanna go to everywhere you wrote about.  You're not a good poet, my nosehairs.  You are GREAT, and don't let anyone tell ya different.

'Yearning' hits me the hardest, because I am so THERE!
