OK Ravensong, here we go.... I am wary of another Rainbow Harvest/Winona Ryder repeat ( see "Dark Films" for an understanding of this ) so here are the 'facts' that the legend of the Ravens, and my chant dedicated to you, is based upon:
" The four-turreted White Tower, built by William the Conqueror, stands on the ancient Bryn Gwyn, or White Mound under which the head of the ancient Celtic god Bran is buried.
In the old Welsh legends Bran is known as Bendigeidfran, or 'Blessed Raven'. After being mortally wounded at his final fatal battle, he tells his seven- the number I mentioned in my comment to your poetry in 'Necromantic Verse'- remaining followers to cut off his head, take it to London and bury it under the White Mound.
The Raven, which in Celtic Mythology has always been regarded as prophetic, can still be found around the White Mound. The Story is that destruction will come to London (and by my extrapolation, to Britain) if the Ravens ever leave; thus, the glossy black birds are regularly replenished from different parts of England. They stand on the grass outside the Tower, rarely moving and apparently showing no inclination to fly away." I suspect, Ravensong, that those birds are well fed by the Beefeater Guard and have had their wings clipped, but I don't know that for sure. At any rate, I am sure that Your wings have not been clipped, nor will they ever be.
